Understanding a media-saturated society

Popular culture and mass media offer a perspective on society. But do they merely reflect society, or subtly shape it? This video takes a hard look at the "answers" offered by television, motion pictures, music and magazines. It explores the lives of several young people, including Elvis Presley's younger brother, Rick Stanley. It provides a way for your students to distinguish between truth and lies--and to be careful consumers of mass media and popular culture's mores.

Teachers tell us:
"This film led to good class discussion about social pressures and false advertisements." - Teacher, Kentucky
"...brought morals into their level." - Teacher, Rhode Island

Student reactions:
"At first they didn't realize how much our society influences our everyday lives. They later gave me examples of how it influences their decisions and thought processes."
