Dennis
Byrd turns tragedy into triumph in this true-life story of courage,
determination and faith. Dennis was emerging as a star defensive
lineman in the National Football League when he broke his neck in
an on-field collision. In one horrifying instant, he was transformed
from a healthy, prospective Pro Bowl athlete for the New York Jets
to a quadriplegic. His future immediately was changed with medical
predictions that he would never walk again.
From Dennis walking unassisted to the center of the
stadium field on the opening day of the Jets' 1993 season--to the
deafening sound of a standing ovation from the crowd--students will
see in the story of Dennis Byrd a powerful and shining example of
heroism on the playing field where it means the most--in the game
of life.
