Dave
Dravecky's strong left arm carried him from the sandlots of Ohio
to the pitcher's mound at the World Series. During his major league
baseball career, Dave won the respect of his fellow players and
the adoration of fans for his sportsmanship and determination. But
at the pinnacle of his playing days, Dave faced the most daunting
challenge of his life. Doctors discovered cancer in his left arm.
With extraordinary resolve, and the support of his loving family,
Dave mounted a dramatic comeback. But tragedy struck again.
Surgeons decided to amputate Dave's arm in order
to stem the spread of cancer. Yet Dave faced the loss of the arm
and the loss of his livelihood with dignity, courage and grace.
Your students--fans or not--will find inspiration in this remarkable
story of a ballplayer whose biggest victory came off the field.
