Facing crack cocaine and other drug abuse

Crack cocaine has spread its poison from urban streets to suburban neighborhoods, becoming a drug of choice in every segment of society. It's become an epidemic in the 1990s, and no one seems safe from this epidemic -- even the "good kids" in our schools. A Cry for Freedom provides your students with an honest, unblinking look at the human cost of America's growing addiction to cocaine.

Outline:
Cocaine's impact: death, entertainment, sports.
Positive effects of cocaine? Feels good, feeling of power.
Negative effects? Depression, suicidal thoughts, paranoia, kills sex drive, destroys friendships, death: of loved ones and self.
Why do people try it? Curiosity, peer pressure, emptiness.
Most effective program? Government survey: "Teen Challenge" and faith discussed
Discussion of faith issues and reasons for program's effectiveness.

Teachers tell us:
"I thought this was an excellent depiction of the effects of cocaine. I think it was made more effective because it also included the highs as well as the lows. If it only included the negative, it might not have the impact that it did." - Sociology Teacher, New Mexico

Student reactions:
"Man, I'm never gonna use drugs!"
"I did not realize you could get hooked on the first time."
